About
Hannah Maxwell is an integrative, arts-based psychotherapeutic counsellor offering creative support to children and young people in Bedford and online. Before training as a therapist, Hannah worked in several educational settings, including nurseries and schools, mostly supporting children with additional needs. Hannah began her journey as an arts-based child therapist in 2012 and part of the training required her to gain experience in various environments including schools and organisations with children of all ages. She has been gaining qualifications and experience ever since. Part of her role as a therapist requires her to keep updated with the latest theories and neuroscience as well as regular continued professional development. This supports and informs her work in the best way possible.
Hannah has regular supervision to assist her in supporting others. As a registered therapist with BACP she can offer a professional and individualised service with a creative and gentle approach to wellness and wellbeing for your child.
About My Work
Hannah works in a playful and relational way focusing on gently building trust and safety with the client whilst supporting greater reflection and awareness. Using the arts as a form of language and expression supports the child to deepen dialogue, whether verbal or non-verbal. This allows for greater clarity and a different perspective, so that they may better organise and work through challenges.
Paints, craft, sand-tray, music, puppets and role play are just some of the modalities included. Hannah has recently trained in Clay-Field Therapy which is a sensorimotor approach supporting the client to process developmental setbacks and traumatic events in a body-focused way, and to regulate the nervous system.
For young people the work can be more talk-based and may include my ABC framework where we work towards integrating skills and understanding around Agency, Boundaries and Consent, including what healthy relationships look like.
